I've always admired the way New Yorkers keep their inner privacy when surrounded by throngs. To someone who hasn't lived there, it may seem cold, but it's not. Two people in this shot -- the young man looking through the subway window waiting for the door to open, and the young woman looking down as if in thought or prayer -- seem strangely vulnerable, as if by retreating inside themselves, they show themselves.
