Definitely a fun bug to photograph. I *love* mantises (mantides? mantisses??).

There was a special on Discovery High Definition on them that was simply spectacular.

Glad you're enjoying the new lens.

Thanks for responding Don . It is cropped so it is a tad out of focus .A cool bug indeed and the martial arts in Kung FU are designed after it .
I got the 17-85IS with my XT as a kit when I got it a couple of years ago and it is pretty adapt at macro .:) Some day I will get a true macro lens.
