Somehow I fear you'd be trampled (and suffer grievous harm to said equipment) if you tried to set up on a Manhattan sidewalk!

Yes, yes! Not to mention the camera police who would just know I was going to blow up the magazine stand. Anyone with a tripod is obviously a terrorist. Or at least insane.

However...

There are some brave enough to try! I caught this guy shooting the Empire State Building. Aside from the fact I was seriously impressed with his gear, I never complained again about the weight of my camera bag. He's got to lug his stuff around on a luggage cart!
