I've just stumbled on something a bit unexpected and perhaps someone can
explain why this 'problem' occurs.
I have calibrated my monitor using my EyeOne Display 2 and EyeOne Match 3.6
(the calibration software is not significant in this case, methinks).
As a result I have a new default monitor profile and things looked rosey (well,
they looked colour correct, but YKWIM).
I then converted a couple of images in C1 to JPEG sRGB. So far so good.
Browsing these jpegs in C1 or opening them in PS show identical images.
However, when I open the image using IrfanView which I've been using
for ages, the image looks different. Now, I know irfan view is not a CM
aware application, but I thought that given that my monitor is calibrated,
and the profile is set as the default in Windows (and the machine restarted),
display of sRGB images should look the same in all image viewers, etc, but
it is not. Moreover, and this is what I do not understand, if I set the monitor
profile in C1 to sRGB, the viewed images look identical to the image displayed
by Irfan View.
So which should I trust? C1 because it is a CM aware app, or Irfan View
because it is using the default windows profile (I think, even though it may
know be aware of it), and the profile is the result of calibrating the monitor?
