Probably created by Nikon to get free advertising, there is a buzz arounf the net on release of a new Nikon, the D40. This camera seems a dummed down but really capable DSLR for Moms and soccer Dad's not serious photographers, as the controls are limited.

Ca bouge du côté des reflex! Tandis que Canon se taille un joli succès avec le tout nouveau EOS 400D, Nikon se prépare à lancer un pavé dans la mare avec, début décembre, un nouveau reflex numérique grand public: le D40."

"Over the last few days there's been a lot of buzz about a new Nikon DSLR reportedly coming out in the coming months - the Nikon D40.
Causing the stir are a series of pictures of the Nikon D40 (see left and below).
The legitimacy of the pictures and the specifications of the Nikon D40 are of course being argued about (as is always the case when rumors and leaks abound regarding new cameras) but the general consensus is that the Nikon D40 is real and is an entry level DSLR (under the D50 - smaller and lighter) and will have a 6.1 megapixel sensor, 2.5 inch LCD, 2.5 frames per second burst mode, ISO 200 to 3200, 3 AF points, 3 metering modes, USB 2.0.
The Nikon D40 is said to be have a retail price of around $499 USD (body only) or $599 with a new G-II version of the 18-55mm lens"

"FORECAST:
INTRODUCTION: 16 November, 2006.
The D40 has not yet been announced, but as of November 3rd, Nikon seems to have leaked it through Germany. This lets people like you and I spread the word for free faster than if Nikon paid for legitimate advertising.
This is called "viral" marketing: a big company fakes a leak with plausible deniability, and that makes word of it spread faster than paying for ads. Since everyone thinks they're seeing something genuinely secret, it spreads much faster. Nikon did the same thing for the D200 and I forget what else. The D80 was unusual, since Nikon for a change hinted at it on Nikon's own site first. Anyway, here's what's been leaked so far, and of course, this could all be pretend and maybe Nikon didn't leak this deliberately. I don't know; it's just funny how every Nikon DSLR gets leaked a week before but never Canon.
I expect the D40 will be announced on November 16th, 2006, and will be shipping towards the end of December, 2006."
