New measures of sensitivity - Tutorial article

CIPA, the technical association of the Japanese camera industry, introduced in 2006 two new measures of the “sensitivity” of a digital camera, recommended for use instead of the ISO speed rating to date used for the purpose. They are the standard output sensitivity (SOS) and recommended exposure index (REI). These new measures are also defined, as alternatives to the ISO speed, by the 2006 version of the relevant ISO standard itself.

I have just posted to my technical information site, The Pumpkin, a new tutorial article entitled, "New Measures of the Sensitivity of a Digital Camera", available here:

http://doug.kerr.home.att.net/pumpkin/index.htm#SOS_REI

This discusses these two measures and the potential impact of this development on digital camera practice.

Thanks Doug!

You're articles are a great resource. Is this a second article or an evolving update?

Hi, Asher,
Is this a second article or an evolving update?

This is basically a formalization of the material I earlier presented in "inline form" into a free-standing article. There is little new information in it, though - mostly just an expansion of the discussion.

Best regards,

Doug
