In Perspective, Fun: From The China Daily!

I realize that we see very little from China. So I'm trying to balance this by reference images that catch my attention from Chinese news sources and give them attribution. It's not a fair way of looking at a country, but it at least it's an imperfect tiny glimpse though a crack in a wall of mystery that separates the giant nation of China from the rest of us.

A swan flies over the Shengtian Lake in Ruicheng, North China's Shanxi province, December 20, 2009.

Anyone know what the duck has written around it's neck? Seems like a tough way to tag a bird. How would it swallow?

Here's another un-typical, unrepresentative sample of photography from China.

China Daily title:"practice kissing?"

At least one person has a sense of humor or else needs a girlfriend. Maybe this "one child per couple" rule causes tension in young males!

China Daily: Workers make dumplings at a restaurant in Shenyang,
Northeast China's Liaoning province, December 21, 2009. [CFP]

The photograph, from the EXIF of the file, was taken with a D3 Nikon DSLR at ISO 200 f2.8 at 1/160 sec with a focal length of 17 mm! (Must have a AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lens, so he's exceptionally well geared up).

So it was taken in very dim light. Somehow, it might have been better to show that and the steam. But, that's the point, the photographer did not go for the expected shot and instead made the picture to be more reminiscent of a checker board. This picture does have a sense of a production line yet has a natural beauty of hand made objects.

I wish they'd add the name of the photographer! I'll write to them! I'd like to be able to look up the photographer too.
