The Amazing Stories Behind Pictures: Places, Events, Poetry, Works of Art Some pictures have far more to see than what is immediately obvious. It's also a window and a library of whatever went before. Tell us this and so we'll be taken beyond the picture deep into the nature and feelings that will buttress the pictures and pull us to come back.

Default A lovely Christmas celebration

On Christmas Day, Carla hosted a lovely family gathering and dinner here at World Headquarters. Most of her family was there; my two daughters and my granddaughter were out-of-town or out-of-pocket in various aunt-niece pairings.

Of course the stars of the event were the twins, Landon and Ashton, and their cousin Ethan (born exactly one month later):

Here we see about 80% of the group of the group relaxing after dinner and watching the Dallas Cowboys illustrate several important lessons about football (do not depend on a kicker who misses about 25% of his kicks; do not do silly illegal things, like taking your helmet off while still on the field after pulling off an amazing touchdown).

Here's the key to the players:
Russ: Carla's older son
Lynne: Carla's daughter
Joni: Carla's daughter-in-law via an earlier marriage (husband Sid was out of the shot)
Joshua: Joni and Sid's son (adopted from Korea)
Samantha: Joni and Sid's daughter (adopted from Korea)
Carla: Matriarch and principal chef and copy editor
Landon: One of the twins, Taylor and Jennifer's son
Andrew: Russ & Kelley's older son, father of Ethan
Kelley: Russ' wife and beaming new grandmother (three-fold)
Ethan: Andrew and Cat's son
Taylor: Russ & Kelley's middle son, father of the twins
Jennifer: Taylor's wife, mother of the twins
Ashton: One of the twins, Taylor & Jennifer's son
Cat: Ethan's mother
Wesley (Russ and Kelley's youngest son) was outside at the time, flying a really large battery-powered radio controlled helicopter. It was dark, but the craft had quite elaborate running lights. I elected not to cover the fight, owing to focusing challenges.

He also got a smaller one, which we see here in indoor flight:

I hope everyone in OPF had a very nice holiday season.

Best regards,

Doug

Hi Doug, thank for sharing!
It looks like World Headquarters was the place to be this holiday season!

We had our "normal" madness here in New York:
After dinner on the night before Christmas Eve we give the restaurant over to our employees and loyal customers - food, bar and all for a night-long party. No charge, just come and be happy!
It's always a good time and it's always standing-room-only!

Christmas Eve is family night for us - this year we had 21 for dinner!
I'm always amazed that Maud can pull off a feat such as this, and make it appear as if she's cooking for 4!

...missing all the children - they're off playing with Christmas gifts

Hi, John,

Very nice. Thanks for sharing these wonderful events with us.

Do we see Maud in either of these?

Best regards,

Doug

My favorite:

I'm not sure what is so shocking about a two-year subscription to American Girl magazine, though. Photo taken by her father.

Here's Carla with one of the twins (I'm not sure which one), now 7-1/2 weeks old:

Douglas A. Kerr: Carla and a twin great-grandson

She counts six great-grands now (taking a conservative view of the dotted lines on the family tree).

Best regards,

Doug

SIX great-grandchildren??? I don't believe it!
She wears it very, very well indeed!

To answer your question, Maud is the blond haired lady sitting at the middle of the table (right side of image).
Her back is to the open door, leading to...of course the kitchen!
