City of Westminster, London

I went to London yesterday for a business meeting and had a couple of free hours before taking the evening flight back home. Here are some of the snapshots (nothing special) I have taken while wandering in the City of Westminster. At first I have had the 24mm on the camera but the dull gray weather did not provide any inspiration at all. After a while, I have switched to the 100mm and took these. C&C is welcome, as usual.

Cheers,

Next time.... if you got some spare time to spend and if you know it in advance, shall we meet? (I'm living about 80km from London)...

£88 for 8 photos, make-up and dress sound like an odd price... Are you making pocket money :) ?

Hi Sandrine,

I have actually thought of contacting you but this was a last minute trip and it was not certain that I'd be finished with work in time. Next time we shall meet definitely.

Re. the 8 pictures and £88, afaik 8 happens to be the lucky number for the superstitious Chinese. So numbers such as 8 and 88 are highly coveted, especially when linked to happiness related items such as portrait photos for your wedding or for your lover.

Pocket money is always welcome how small it may be, BTW. ;-)

Cheers,

it's just that I need to know in advance in order to book the train at reasonable fares...
I'm halfway from Gatwick but it's not a nice meeting point! :)

Ah, yes! I remember the 888.com website
There was also a Canon rebel /EOS 888 for the asian market probably...
and this story about the 888 telephone number http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_in_Chinese_culture

Pocket money is always welcome how small it may be, BTW. ;-)

The other day while in London, Chinatown, I saw ads for massage at £3... Some people needs it more than we do... :)

Talking bout lucky numbers check out my number of posts, now (I'm entering the heavy metal hall of fame)

This new post brings back things to normal... Sort of....
I have to go away for a few minutes one of my wings is stuck behind my hoof.

PS:Note to the moderator (cem, are you here?)
This is my first and last attempt posting non acceptable smilies..
It was my rebel moment... :)

Cem,

Post 1 frame 1 excellent.

Post 2 frame 1, I like, but doesn't carry the 'authority' of the first, which is quite 'clinical' in presentation. Very Usakligil:)

I know, I know. :) I was just snapping away without thinking much, otherwise I would have come back home with only a few pictures, if at all. This is my current problem; I expect too much from myself when taking pictures. It takes away the pleasure of street shooting so I wanted to loosen up a bit yesterday. :)

Cheers,

Hi Cem, there's something about the last one with The Porcupine sign above Underground that makes it my favorite of the series. Once again I don't know why I like what I do, but I do know what I like. Now how's that for circular nonsense!

Cem, I hope you enjoyed your brief stay here in London town.
If your here again maybe we could meet up and i'll show you around some back streets, especially those that Jack frequented, and of course the ten bells pub where he picked up his victims. Of course though we'll just be picking up pints! :D

Glad you made the time when you made the trip! That's what we have to do!

That pigeon on the top of an important man's head! Reminds me of the verse by the street urchin boy, Gavoche in Le Miserables "A flea can bite the bottom of the Pope in Rome!"

GAVROCHE
They laugh at me, these fellas,
Just because I am small
They laugh at me because I'm not hundred feet tall!
I tell 'em there's aot to learn down here on the ground
The world is big, but little people turn it around!

A worm can roll a stone
A bee can sting a bear
A fly can fly around Versailles
'Cos flies don't care!
A sparrow in a hut
Can make a happy home
A flea can bite the bottom
Of the Pope in Rome!

For the music, go here
