Is it appropriate to ask here for a step-by-step on *where* to look for these profiles?You should look for profiles for your monitors and your printer/ink/paper [Epson's canned profiles aren't bad], install them, set them where necessary.

Thank you so very much, Dierk! This is most reassuring.Essentially calibration and profiling is a standardised way to get experience into the work-flow. If you work with the same monitor, same printer, same ink, same paper, and you know their differences, you don't need another form of colour management.
